Built in 1884 and recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as an excellent example of Neoclassical architecture, the mansion contains period furnishings. The home is located near a number of other historic homes and buildings, making it an excellent place to start a historic walk. Shorter Mansion now serves as a museum honoring the six Alabama governors from Barbour County and Admiral Thomas Moorer, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
